Hi! My name is Jessica Reid, and I am an advocate for environmental sustainability and climate action.
While environmental problems are serious, I believe that people can make change by communicating about the environment. Discussing environmental problems and solutions can encourage people to make changes in their own lives and pressure other people, especially business leaders and politicians, to make changes on larger scales. I am growing my own communication skills as a student in the Environment and Science Communication program at the UNC-Chapel Hill Hussman School of Journalism and Media. Attending UNC-Chapel Hill has allowed me to meet people with different perspectives and expertise about the environment. For example, I attended the UNC Clean Tech Summit, where I learned about the renewable energy industry. Additionally, I am the author of the book Planet Now: Effective Strategies for Communicating about the Environment, which I published in September 2020. This book describes how people can communicate about the environment to spur change toward a sustainable future. I have shared my research through speaking engagements. For example, I presented at the Young Women in STEM Conference in June 2021 and spoke on the Make Climate Cool Again podcast. I am sharing my knowledge on this blog to help more people advocate for a safe and sustainable environment. I hope it will help you have productive discussions with other people. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions! |
